# Instant Cash Can Mean Slower Books

Card settlement and merchant payout comparison sheet. Research date: 2026-09-25, Asia/Hong_Kong. Public-source desk research; no transactions, account access, provider selection or observed cost savings.

## Read the rows at their own layer

A network settlement obligation and a merchant's usable bank balance are different endpoints. These routes are not interchangeable quotes. The purpose is to expose what a fair comparison still needs, including the bookkeeping work after an accelerated payout.

| Route and source | Eligibility / endpoint | Prefunding or required balances | Usable-cash timing | Reconciliation | Total disclosed cost |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SoFiUSD / Mastercard [1, 2] | Live SoFi card program per company; merchant account terms need separate verification | Comparable participant requirements absent from reviewed releases | Network launch does not measure cash timing for a specified merchant | Comparable merchant report and measured work not supplied | Zero-cost cash-withdrawal claim is narrower than total route cost; no comparable total |
| Visa / USDC [3] | Selected US issuer/acquirer participants; network obligations | Collateral reduction is discussed, not a quantified merchant balance release | Seven-day network settlement; recipient cash time not measured here | No comparable merchant workflow or measured work in reviewed announcement | No comparable commercial total in reviewed announcement |
| Stripe automatic payout [4, 6] | Merchant account with automatic payouts | Payout uses available balance; required balances/reserves depend on account terms | Settlement availability, payout schedule and receiving bank affect timing | Batch reconciliation report available for automatic payouts | Account-specific processing, payout and operating costs needed |
| Stripe Instant Payout [5, 6] | Eligible user, eligible balance and payout destination; limits apply | Eligible payout balance required; not proof of zero provider or merchant funding cost | Typically within 30 minutes, including weekends; no measured merchant result here | User reconciles instant payouts against transaction history | US Dashboard payout fee 1.5%; not the all-in acceptance, funding and operating cost |

March 3, 2026 is the SoFi/Mastercard plan date; September 22 is the live-launch announcement date. Visa's December 16, 2025 announcement supplies historical context. Living Stripe documentation was read on the research date. None of these sources supplies a matched four-route performance experiment.

## Blank measurement sheet

Copy one row per route available to the same business. Empty cells mean the necessary evidence has not been supplied, never zero. Do not fill network timing into the merchant-cash column. Compare only rows with the same merchant, currency, sales amount, recipient and accounting boundary.

| Route | Eligibility evidence / limits | Prefunding or required balance and holder | Start / usable-bank-cash timestamps | Reconciliation owner / evidence / minutes | Full cost and included components |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| SoFiUSD / Mastercard | | | | | |
| Visa / USDC | | | | | |
| Stripe automatic payout | | | | | |
| Stripe Instant Payout | | | | | |

For later authorized measurement, attach the terms date, currency, amount, time zone, payout and bank references, report delivery time, fees, refunds, residual balance, exception owner, and any unresolved difference. Retain failed or delayed observations. Use equivalent weekday/weekend cases and keep the original sample fixed. This sheet does not authorize acquiring customer records or executing a payment.

## A price example, not a service benchmark

Hypothetical eligible US Stripe Dashboard payout: $1,000 × 1.5% = $15 payout fee using the published rate. Assume two calendar days of earlier access and a 10% annual funding cost: $1,000 × 0.10 × 2 / 365 = $0.547945, approximately $0.55. The day gain and funding rate are illustrative, not measurements or a financing quote. Processing fees and labor are excluded. The example's financing benefit alone cannot cover its payout fee; urgency or avoided losses could change the decision but are not valued here.

General comparison: benefit from earlier use + evidenced operating savings − incremental route fees − incremental funding cost − incremental operating work. Use the cost of capital applicable to the balance actually released, and avoid counting the same funding saving twice. A balance that must remain funded has not been released merely because a transfer is faster. No numerical overall winner can be established from the reviewed sources.
